Home Rule Movement (1916)
After Tilaks return, having served sentence of six years in Mandalay, he tried securing the readmission of himself and other Extremists into the Indian National Congress. With the need being felt for popular pressure to attain concessions, disillusionment with Morley-Minto Reforms and wartime miseries, Tilak and Annie Besant readied to assume leadership. The Home Rule League was pioneered on lines of a similar movement in Ireland.
